Special Program for Sponsoring Afghan Refugees without Formal Refugee Status
The Government of Canada has announced a temporary special program to sponsor Afghan refugees, who live outside Afghanistan, without having to submit a refugee status determination (RSD) document.
The program enables Groups of Five individuals or Community Sponsors to sponsor Afghan refugees who do not have a refugee status document issued by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). This temporary policy will end upon the acceptance of 3,000 refugees’ applications or until October 17, 2023 (whichever comes first).
